Credit Crunch good for Lap Dancing
There will be lap dancing in Finsbury in London, no real story there. But the reason the venue made for applying for the licence was that the recession/credit crunch has forced their hand to keep open they need to offer something more to their customers. Bar Aquarium in Old Street will have ‘exotic dancers’ a few night a week, the council have approved the licence.
As mentioned in my blogs and forum posts, despite the fact that strip venues are generally bucking the trend and making good money the government will have another go with their Policing and crime bill 2009 this year making every lap dancing and stripper a ‘sex worker’ and every strip club a decriminalised zone. Maybe the news about Bar Aquarium is a bit more realistic, with revenue down, more outgoings such as benefits to pay the government is hardly going to refuse money
With money tighter and tighter more venues will be looking to add other strings to their bow to increase revenue, it would make sense to add a proven money maker like strip nights. The big question will be after the recent backlash will councils still approve clubs or are they being told to refuse applications even though we are facing a recession?
Either way more and more clubs will be looking at trying this option!
