Just a general short blog about licensing laws as they are today with regards to strip clubs, strip pubs and lap dancing clubs etc.

Licensing laws vary from council to council which means some councils can veto any clubs or set a maximum number of clubs. This results in some areas with no/few clubs and others with saturation piont of clubs. Councils also set drink licensing hours again resulting a disparity ie some clubs are open till 5 and others will have to close earlier.

This system while letting local people have some control over licensing laws also results in certain individuals having what amounts to clandestine powers. From my perspective these people seem to fall into 3 categories ( religious, womens rights and old people). If you read the committee minutes you find the same objections over and over. You wouldn’t compare a chemist with a drug dealer so why compare a lap dancing club with a brothel? There is no proven increase in sexual crime or alcohol related problems surrounding strip venues so why this hysteria? The people who get involved in these anti-strip crusades seem to forget that national laws have been passed to allow strip clubs (under certain Licensing Laws and controls) so individuals putting pressure on connections in councils to stop strip clubs is unconstitutional. Bearing in mind most of these people have never been in a strip club…

Licensing Laws have had a shake up in the last few years with extended opening hours to venues licensed to sell alcohol without a rise in violent or sexual crime, and strip clubs are much better regulated and controled than your local huge Chain pub or night club.

My point in writting this blog was to say that a small minority of anti strip activists have an unconstitutional power over the silent majority who elected polititans who passed laws allowing strip clubs. Licensing laws should not be made by people who have no knowledge of something and have made their mind up prior to any discussion…single issue close minded busy bodies would never get voted in so why do they have power over us?

This is a little blog about the changing face of strip shows. What has changed? Why have they changed and is this for the better?

During the 90s lap dancing became all the rage, another US craze which caught on. Due to the media attention and subsequent popularity of these clubs lap dancing clubs could afford larger more plush premises outside the usual Soho type back streets and “improved” the public perception of these clubs significantly. It also had a knock on effect on old fashioned strip joints who had to compete with US chains offering fully nude close lap dances.

The days of descending into the bowels of Soho and being charged £50 for coke, with the threat of 2 giant bouncers hanging over you are long gone-strip had gone corporate! The changing face of strip shows was never more evident than the fact that strip clubs these days are more like casinos or cinemas than a grubby back street private member club.

The result of all this was that patrons end up paying more for a more standardised perfomance but end up in a nicer environment which would not scare off anyone.

Is this good or bad? This depends on the club, but this is like asking whether Burger King is better than a burger stall outside a nightclub…certainly getting a lap dance is better than watching a pole dance on stage.

Strip pubs are more traditonal lad entertainment and are anti-corporate at the same time. Localised mainly around a few centers in England they offer a more value-for-money alternative to chain strip joints. Not everyone has £200 to blow a few hours in Spearmint Rhino!!

The UK Strip Clubs forum is a utility that has uses for the whole of the strip industry and beyond.

International pop legend Madonna swapped charity and saving the planets kids to auditioning strippers in one of London many strip clubs Secrets. The Madonna film direction debut will feature strippers from London.

It has been reported that the new Madonna film will be a short film on strippers and was casting for talent in London hearing them say lines and perform on stage.

Factors that make a good lap dance

How near the start of the night your dance is. Even with a good lap dances the first one is usually the most enjoyable.

when you are having your dance are you near other people. You can lose the atmosphere by being sat next to others.

How long have you waited for your dance? Some clubs dont seem to have enough dancers on at peak times. Spending what should be the highlight of your week waiting can take the shine off your experience.

Layout and atmosphere of club, smaller club are usually preferable.

Lap dancers know what they are doing of course. These factors don’t depend on the lap dance you are getting, but can change the way you view it.

An American strip club has dodged licencing laws by calling strip shops art classes and allowing punters to sketch dancers for $15 a time, thus avoiding stringent licencing policies for strip clubs.

Not only does this allow a club to avoid regulation as a strip club but “models” can go fully nude where as before they had to retain briefs.

What next? We already have the ‘pole dancing as fitness’ craze why not go the whole hog and have OU lap dancing courses? There must be loads of inventive ways of circumventing pointless and out-dated licencing laws and I would love to know a few!!
