A nice little earner?
Time was lap dancers and strippers dated footballers and drove BMW’s and were covered with designer gear from head to painted toe, but now with the ‘Credit Crunch’ and the most generous punter finding money harder to come buy the industry is facing a crunch of it’s own.
Despite what the press want the public to think (ie there are more clubs than ever and business is booming) the entertainment industries are the first to suffer when money is tight and dancers are earning less and less. Especially with money tighter than it has been since the early 90s (ie before lap dancing was introduced to the UK from the States). Investment Bankers are unlikely to be blowing thousands in one night these days and regular punters will be thinking of filling their car up and heating their homes rather than spectacular nights out.
The court ruling that performers pay their own tax rather than then venue has contributed to this and the proliferation of foreign talent has meant that the rise in venue numbers has not meant more demand but increased competition.
Does the government think that capping club numbers or re-classifying clubs as ’sex encounter establishments’ will help this situation?
