After all the bluster and boasting about how great the new strip legislation would be for the average law abiding person in the UK (forget lap dancers, club owners and punters) it seems that the law itself doesnt even know what the score is with licensing of strip clubs. In what is set to be a trial case Platinum Lace of Glasgow which used to be part of the Spearmint Rhino group has caused the local council to rethink their ban of the club after a couple of incidents. The licensing board had previously rescinded the licence after sending an inspector to the club but a judge has rejected this as being beyond their powers. Which they went on to say should be limited to the provision of alcohol.
So where does this leave the rest of the industry? Clear as mud of course. As I have said before the more legislation there is the worse the whole thing works. No-one knows what the score is about licensing: not club owners, no politicians not local councils. I wouldnt be the first to think that since most politicins these days have a background in the law being lawyers etc creating work for their brother QCs and judges would make them popular…and make no bones about it this will not be the last court case about the dubious new legislation. They are sure to drag on while the UK loses money and the tax we could have got from them and we are paying for the court facilities when the government is meant to cutting costs across the board.
Platinum Lace managed to stay open while the case progressed, but there have been many clubs which have gone down, but they were trading for two years under a cloud. The largest and most prestigious venue in Glasgow must have been a great target to any strip campaigners.
Clubs have to content with mixed messages from Westminster, local police, local councils and devolved parliaments (in Wales and Scotland) to deal with and no-one seems to have a clear view of what the rules which govern the industry are, the main losers will be us the UK taxpayer and the the industry which is being swamped by red tape. Its no surprise knowing the score about adult entertainment licensing is a full time job for certain new agencies.
It could be Platinum Lace does become a test case for clubs across the UK, there will be many venues in a similar situation.

I thought I would give you guys a few tips on placing a comment for a club since there seem to be a few difficulties.
No bad language or unprovable claims or slander. As hosts we cannot accuse clubs of anything we cant prove. These will not be made live. Contact the venue direct.
Please dont write THE WHOLE THING IN CAPITALS ITS REALLY ANNOYING. Your comment may or may not be fixed up and made live. The same goes for texttalk and poor grammer. Make it readable please!
Dont post requests to the club or indeed ukstripclubs.com. We give details on how to get in touch with us and clubs in their correct places.
Please stay to the point but give as much detail about your night and the club as possible. Detail your whole experience from entering the venue to the staff, drinks, dances and so on including the club itself, its decor, music etc. Everything you want to know yourself before you went in.
Dont place the same, or similar comments, over and over please.
Any obvious attempts by venues to post comments on other venues listings will not be made live.
