Did anyone see the strip related show on TV last night, Toughest Towns Prague with Donal MacIntyre? Not a great show, though what are you expecting from Bravo?
Anyone who has been to Prague will know that its no Amsterdam, you can go wandering off drunk into the night on your own and ask directions of passers by or drop in for a pint wherever you are and expect your English to be enough language-wise. Apart from trying to connect human traffic with the strip industry, whereas these women are brought into the country for a different purpose the show was quite implausible. Mr MacIntyre interviewed club owners who claimed to be paying off police, since when did criminals become so overt? I am always sceptical about these shows, why would a serious crook need to pump his ego by telling everything to a camera. All a cop would have to do is watch the show and go round there…
Prague is a party town with loads of strip clubs, what would it be without that money? The fact that it has loads of bars, strip shows and nightlife does make it a tough town. Donal MacIntyre thought that Prague was a tough town as he got hastle walking around the red light district with a video camera, try doing that in Amsterdam or the Reeperbahn and see what you get!
Being an undercover journo must be harder when everyone knows your face, Im sure there are still plenty of pubs Donal MacIntyre cant drink in London….thats probably why he has moved overseas.
I cant remember a strip related TV show that did not try to link the industry (legal the last time I checked) with illegal activities such as human traffic and prostitution. A low blow and an easy one.

The recession or credit crunch as it was known is now biting the industry in a big way. While thats true there is of course more to it than that! The industry has never been a straightforward one, needing licensing from variable and sometimes contrary local councils, having press campaigns against certain clubs and the odd TV documentary all fighting against them and the perception of the industry created by people who have never set foot in a club.
There are clubs closing, winding down or having licensing troubles including some established names, the press has focused on the fact that there are no longer bankers and executives spending thousands per night and this has hit clubs. They choose to forget that the vast majority of punters are ordinary Joes on a nightout or stag rather than the big spenders. These are the people that will keep clubs in business, the press seem to be enjoying the fall of big business forgetting that Joe Bloggs pays the bills! Clubs need to work harder than ever to get ordinary customers, and there are signs that this market will be the future of the industry. The press seem to see this as the return of the ’seedy’ side of the industry as the glitz and showbiz takes a backseat, I have read plenty of lazy articles claiming that the industry is going backward into the old days of back street joints and a pre-lap dancing image.
The government is doing its bit to stiffle the industry with random closures, licenses withdrawn, police visits and hundred other hypocritical measures. The small minded people who want a blanket ban are getting what they want for the moment.
Normal punters are the future, the recession is now at its lowest ebb with house prices going up and a bitmore confidence in the finance industry. In around a years time the economy will pick up, leaving more money in back pockets-will we have a strip industry to spend out money on then!

The new Glasgow Spearmint Rhino and Seventh Heaven in the city have both been refused a licence, pending appeals they will close. This follows seeming breaches of new Scottish only legislation on clubs.
Whther we will now see an increased number of venues closing as councils send their spook squads around for any excluse to close venues, we know they want to close as many as they can without help from the recent ammendment bill that was proposed by the Labour Government recently.
Does Glasgow Council want to take on the might of the Spearmint Rhino chain, their millions might mean they survive. Either way it wont promote business in the city, shutting down a thriving venue for a cause that most people dont agree with…

The strip industry is facing the same challenges as the rest of us but it pays to put everything into perspective one in a while, here are a few reasons to support your local venue:
