The government seem to be persisting with their ‘reclassification’ of strip venues at some point in 2009, the bill was put to MPs earlier in 2008 but it looks like they will have another bash next year. If you did not know this will involve all clubs being classified as ’sex encounter’ establishments needing draconian licensing which will be even more arbitrary than ever.
The proposals could could also see caps on the number of clubs, but the government have been quiet about how this will work. Will there be a national total, a cap on numbers per capita or just a certain number per town! All of these options have obvious draw backs, they will result in either a even stronger polarisation of the big cities or more clubs opening in smaller towns (was this not the problem in the first place?)
For anyone working in the industry this will be disasterous, it should be noted that strip clubs were one of the few industries bucking the Labour created recession. Strippers criminalised, venues shut, punters having to travel further than ever and less money in the Tax coffers for Gordon Brown.
2008 was also the first year when a venue Club Redd was attacked by arsonists and virtually destroyed. This is the first attack of its kind (feel free to correct me there) on a club which was granted a license by the local council and broke no laws. Whether this a US type religious backlash it remains to be seen, you dont improve your local area by torching a new business in the middle of the night!!! Arson was confirmed by the Fire Services and police after a concerted campaign of hate mail to the club owner.
Reading the UK Strip Club Forum, the profits to be made in the business are right down which will make it even harder to keep venues going in 2009. Does the government think of stuff like peoples wages when they participate in withchunts like the recent lap Dancing Bill? Obviously not, looks like they will not be in power for much of 2009!
However, club numbers are still up on the previous year with 359 listed for the UK and Ireland. Hustler the huge US concern have opened a club in the UK, while the larger UK chains have expanded likewise.

Happy Christmas to all users of UK Strip Clubs and readers of this blog (go on there must be some!) from all the team we hope you have a cracking good time and hopefully enjoy a few decent dances over the period!
This has been a big year for us, we have had plenty of media of mentions in the media worldwide including the ABC News and BBC News plus we have added some rather splendid new features to the site which should take it to the next level. Below is a run down of some of the main additions we have made:
Ratings system - rate clubs to let everyone know what you think.
Comments system - Will be up and running sometime in the new year.
Individual club pages - A new page for each venue.
Additional club fields - Find out a little more detail on each club before you venture outside.

Its that time of year again, and your local strip venue may be needing your custom after a rough year! You may been planning a night out with work collegues, buddies or friends from school. Below are a few basic tips for maximising your fun:
Book ahead - You will get all sorts of discounts plus most clubs would like to have advance bookings for any large groups, so avoid dissapointment. Many venues will have vouchers, groups deals or drinks promos as well.
Arrange accomodation and transport in advance - Some venues will have free limo transport, so check them out in advance
What hours are clubs open from - Not all clubs are open untill 4pm or 6pm so check with listings and contact clubs if required. If you are going to more than one club check you can get from A to B and still have time in each place.
Hopefully you will have a great night out, despite what the press want everyone to think, strip clubs and lap dancing clubs are still a great way to have a laugh with your mates in a grown up environment!

Peter Stringfellow took time out his busy to visit Westminster this week to discuss proposed legislation to control (read limit) strip clubs numbers and make thousands of women across the UK ’sex workers’.
While this is a strip clubs blog, the government should take more time to resolve the financial disaster they created rather than stopping people spending their money on what they want to. A few jounalists and female MPs dont represent millions of people across the UK, taking money out of the economy is not the way to turn around the credit crunch! The strip industry has been one of the few sectors to resist the downturn.
Anyway…the only thing the media could some up with to talk about was Stringfellows hair cut! Not news in any sense.
One one side was an ex lap dancer who claimed that the business ‘objectified women’, and a present one who said that they dont earn as much cash as MPs thought. Members of the LDA were present to promote the industry.
The government has now dealt with this matter and can go back to taking their share of the money. I seem to remember that few MPs took the time to vote in the lap dancing Bill of earlier this year, meaning that the backlash against clubs was little more than media sabre rattling from the usual suspects.
Peter Stringfellow gets some free promotion and New Labour gets to deal with another topic…at our expense
