There have not been any more venues to report for a while now, which probably means the total number of clubs is calming down to a manageable level rather than expanding forever. There are over 320 venues listing in the UK so this is probably a upper level to the number that the mainland UK can support.
The number seems to be a lot more spread in terms of towns in the UK, with more clubs in previously untouched areas. These are the clubs which have courted the most controversy with the press and MPs, however the recent Lap Dancing Licensing Bill was recently rejected-meaning all the hot air of recent months came to nothing. The various political parties do that all the time, as we know, react to press hype and then it all fizzles out when the hype is over. Would the government (or opposition) want to lose all the revenue that comes with lap dancing and strip clubs in the current finanacial climate? I bet George Bush wished he had not knocked billions of dollars of online gambling revenue on the head when the financial crisis hit!
If anyone knows (roughly) how much the industry makes each year I would be interested to know! It must be tens of millions, and the economy could not really afford to lose that.
The strip and lap dancing business is much maligned, but it is one of the few sectors still making money!
